King of Kings

This project consisted of submerging a bronze sculpture of a Christ King in the waters of Ixtapa-Zihutanejo, so appears as an attraction, in addition to a search to renew the faith of the Catholic populace of Mexico.

With the town-people's support a great number of keys were collected, which comprised the raw material with which to fashion the heart of the sculpture and part of the statue.

The masterful handiwork of the bronze figure, which weighs approximately a ton and a half, and stands just over 12 feet tall, was in the skilful hands of the sculptor from the State of Guerrero, Marco Antonio Rivero.

The heart of the Christ King statue contains a key, whose shape will be the model upon which replicas will be made to hand over to distinguished guests who visit the binomial beach.

King of Kings

Prior to its immersion, from the beginning of March 2008, The King of Kings sculpture traversed the country on display throughout the key cities of Mexico, with the aim of promoting this destination to those who profess the Catholic religion.

The Municipal Tourism Board and the Secretary of Tourism Promotion, with assistance from scuba diver, Alberto Fares, determined that the ideal place for the submersion of the King of Kings statue is an area located in front of Las Gatas Beach.

Departing from the main wharf, the estimated ride to the submersion area of the Christ statue is ten minutes.

At Las Gatas Beach you can hire service companies that can take you snorkelling in the area where the Christ statue is submerged.
