TAXIS

In Ixtapa as well as in Zihuatanejo, almost everything is relatively near, so you can walk to wherever you want to go and that way discover things that you would otherwise miss knowing and enjoying; you will only need a taxi or public transportation if you need to travel great distances to reach the place you want to visit.

Local transportation in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo is made up of taxis and public transportation, but if you want to venture on your own, car rentals are also available; all car rental agencies have a booth at the Airport and some have offices at the hotels, you can also reach them directly if you wish, on this page you will find the necessary information.

TIPS

  • If you call the Radio Taxi, they charge $5 pesos more than the public fee.
  • If you want air conditioning, the fee will go up by 40 %
    After midnight all fees have a 50% extra charge
  • If you consider it necessary, you may give the driver a tip; in Mexico a minimum of 10% of the cost of the service is the usual and it applies in all cases.
  • The fees are per car and not per person; the maximum capacity per car is four persons.
  • The cars are painted white and they are mostly Nissan Tsuru or Sentra models; they all have a number and the name of the association, it is recommended that you write down this information in case you forget something or wish to make a report.

BUSES

The microbuses, as they are known Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, have different routes that take you from the highest neighborhoods to the beaches and tourist-attraction areas; the schedule for this service is from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day.

TIPS:

  • There are stops at several strategic places in downtown Zihuatanejo, the most popular of these being those on Benito Juárez Ave. and Morelos Ave. To locate, look at the map.
  • In Ixtapa the stops are located on Paseo Ixtapa and there are booths all along the avenue so that you can wait comfortably.
  • It is important for you to look at the sign that indicates where the microbus is going, if it is not clear to you, ask the driver.
